New Block Retaining Wall Keeps This Front Yard From Washing Away

A failing retaining wall doesn't just look bad - it's actively working against you. Soil shifts. Mulch washes onto the sidewalk. Water pools where it shouldn't. And the longer you wait, the bigger the repair becomes. That's exactly the situation we stepped in to fix here.

The old wall was gone and we started fresh. We went with a clean, dark block system and built it right - gravel at the base for drainage, a solid cap along the top, and fresh soil backfilled and ready for planting. Every course is level and tight. That matters more than people realize, because a wall that isn't built properly from the ground up won't hold long-term.

Notice the drainage detail along the front face of the wall - there's a weep opening built into the base course to let water escape. That's not just a finishing touch. That's what keeps hydrostatic pressure from building up behind the wall and pushing the whole thing out over time. A lot of contractors skip that step. We don't.

This is what a retaining wall is really supposed to do. It holds your grade in place, keeps your landscape where you put it, and protects the soil from eroding toward the sidewalk or street. When it's built correctly, you shouldn't have to think about it again for a long time.
