A lot of backyards have one thing in common - nothing useful right outside the door. Just grass, maybe a small concrete step, and a whole lot of wasted potential. That's exactly what we were working with here before putting together this 10x18 custom paver patio.
We used Unilock Beacon Hill Flagstone in fossil color for the main field. It's a great product. The surface has that natural stone look with the variation and texture that makes it feel high-end, but it's engineered to hold up long-term without the maintenance headaches of real flagstone. The double charcoal border is what really locks the whole design in - it gives the patio a clean, defined edge and makes the fossil color field pop.
Before we laid a single paver, we built out a 3D render of the design so the homeowner could see exactly what they were getting. That step matters. It eliminates surprises and makes sure everyone is on the same page before the real work starts. What you see in the final result matches what was planned from the beginning.
The pattern work on a job like this takes real attention. Getting a running bond or modified flagstone layout to line up correctly across a 10x18 space - with a tight double border all the way around - means every cut has to be right. Sloppy cuts show. Uneven spacing shows. We don't cut corners there.
The finished patio sits flush right outside the sliding door, turning what was just a grass edge into a functional outdoor space. Room for furniture, room to move around, and a surface that will hold up through freeze-thaw cycles for years to come. That's the kind of upgrade that actually gets used.
